Has anyone had a good experience staying in a hotel versus a chalet?

i quite fancy having a pool/sauna type thing but not sure if it's families and couples in hotels or what?

any feedback would be great.

thanks!

Sarah

Had to respond first to say well done for starting this website.  I believe there is a huge market and over time this site will build.
In regards to your question, I usually stay at hotels and have some great experiences and have stayed as a single here and there (Murren, Chamonix).  However, the places that take singles without supplements are hard to find and usually a bit run down (which is why they will take singles without supplement) and the sense of isolation is accentuated.  My problem is that I am an Aussie now living in London and all my previous ski buddies all go to Japan or US/Canada from Oz and my wife does not ski.  Got over this last year by going to a Spa Hotel in Kitzbuhel and my wife had treatments whilst I skied.  A good balance.

Good luck with the site and I look forward to using it as the season kicks off.

hi there - great!  Thanks for your support and advice.

i think a hotel might be better for a long weekend stay?  or maybe towards the end of season when everyone kicks back a bit and it's not so intense (very much looking forward to that!)

it just seems a lot of the hotels in the area i want to stay are practically on the doorstep of the chairlifts (i guess the hotels came first in the olden days) and had to keep walking past nice pools and stuff.

look forward to seeing you back and most importantly - tell people about us!

cheers

Hi

I personally don't want anything fancy and prefer self catering to a hotel, so I'm the wrong person to be answering this post, but thought I would anyway  Wink

Catered Chalet every time ! Helps the budget as food is paid for (and a fair bit of alcohol too!) much more sociable when you travel with others and a must for me when i travel solo to meet others to ski with. Much more comfy and homely than even the best hotels, independent brit run companys offer excellent service and quality, usually much better than tour operators and much more likely to take solo travellers.
