Hi all, i've just been informed that the group of friends I was planning on going to Banff early next year have decided to go to Europe instead  Huh So, i'm now looking to visit Banff on my own and wondered if any one is going, fancies going or any general advice.

33 male, can snowboard but no expert, enjoys a beer or two.

Roadie, I went to Banff at the start of the year on my own. The shuttle's to the 3 slopes are really regular in the mornings and returns in the afternoons. Most of the lift passes also cover this shuttle, so no extra charges there.

Depending on your level, I'd stay away from Norquay and Sunshine. Both are ok, but Lake Louise has enough for all levels for at least a week.

The slopes have ski hosts which is free and well worth doing.

Night life in Banff isnt great, but there's enough bars to relax and enjoy yourself. There's not a great deal of resturants, Tony Roma's on the high street was about the biggest I could find.

Have you booked your hotel yet?

If I wasnt going to Denver I might have offered to come along. I'll dig out what documents I kept and will post back with more information soon.

Hi Fish, thanks for the reply, i've been to Banff once before and loved it that's why I would go back as its the only non European place i've been and i've never heard a single person ever complain about the snow.... unlike Europe. I'd hate to spend the money to travel so far on a gamble as to what the snow is usually like so open to suggestions on other locations.
When I went 5 years ago I went with a group so that wasn't a problem so would like to find another load of solo skiers/boarders going that way, hence why i'm on this site.
I've not booked anything yet as I only found out a few days ago that the group want to go to Europe.

If you can get the time off at the start of December why not come out to Colorado with me. Almost all the slopes will be open by late November, so plenty of choice.

As said if I hadnt booked the flights already I might have come along.

With the way the exchange rate has gone for sterling, Europe will be out this year and I'll be looking for US/Canadian resorts.

Canada will be even more expensive this year due to the winter olympics being in Vancouver/Whistler.
